When I was growing up Juicy Fruit gum was the only gum that my mother ever chewed.
Funny how I remember that.
It was always the first thing that I would notice when my Mother would open up her purse. The bright yellow package could always be found between her wallet and the car keys.
And how she would love to snap her gum, especially when she was driving.
I would always count the snaps to see how many she could rattle off at one time.
She once got as high as five snaps.
I was most impressed.
Then secretly on my own I would practice snapping my gum until I could do it as well as she could.
I’m happy to say that I’ve reached as high as seven snaps…
Much to the chagrin of my coworkers.
By the time I was around 12 years old I had grown bored of juicy fruit gum and branched out into spearmint gum.
I’ve continued to chew gum through my whole adult life and have purchased every available gum there is in the stores except for juicy fruit gum.
Although every now and again I think about going out and buying me a pack.
I keenly remember how fragrantly fruity Mother’s purse would always smell.
And it made for some pretty sweet kisses too.
